| The Argentine Republic is located
in the South American Continent. It´s 37,000 Km2 and the total
population is 33,000,000 according to the last census in 1991.
The pampean plains, an extension
of 600,000 Km2, concentrate 70 % of the population, 80 % of farm
production and 85% of industrial activity.
Argentina is a federate republic with twenty - three provinces
plus the Federal District Buenos Aires city.
WHO WE ARE
Our association was founded
in 1978 by twelve mothers at the Children's Hospital "Sor
Maria Ludovica" in La Plata city.
It is a non profit civil
association that works to improve life quality of coeliac diagnosed
patients. Based on solidarity principles our association is considered
a pioneer a model for many others.
The main office is located
in La Plata , capital city of the province of Buenos Aires. The
latter is the largest (307,571 km2) and the most densely populated
province in Argentina (with 11,000,000 inhabitants).
The association is represented
by its branches and personalized referents in more than 150 places
throughout the country.
COELIAC DISEASE PREVALENCE
IN ARGENTINA
A recent study (January 1998
/ May 2000 ) done to 2000 individuals (996 women and 1004 men)
with an average age of 29, tested for pre- nupcial requirements,
gave as a result a prevalence of 1:167, similar to that in some
European areas, which are genetically related with our population.
